Supporting Our Families Where They Are: Staying Anchored in Adams Morgan

Sitar Arts Center and the A. James & Alice B. Clark Foundation share a commitment to DC families. With their partnership, we’re growing in place to support our city’s youth on their path to self-determined success.

At Sitar Arts Center, we know that place matters. Despite the rising cost of living and rapid gentrification in our Adams Morgan neighborhood, one in four children in Ward 1 experiences poverty. We remain anchored in place so that high-quality arts education remains accessible to families with low income right here in the heart of DC.  Growing in partnership with Jubilee Housing enables more families with financial barriers to live and learn in our resource rich neighborhood.

Our partners at the A. James & Alice B. Clark Foundation are equally invested in DC’s youth and the ecosystem that supports their success. To date, the Foundation has invested nearly $163 million in schools, school-support organizations, and community anchors like Sitar across the DC region.

The Foundation's early investment in Sitar's expansion ensures that we are in the strongest possible position to grow our afterschool and summer programming and to expand our workforce development programming for young adults.  This significant, multi-year investment is supporting both the purchase of Sitar Next Door and critical capacity building in our team of program leaders and innovators.

“Through the hard work of our partners, we strive to provide access to educational opportunities for all young people in DC. Regardless of cultural or financial barriers, all young people deserve opportunities to discover their creativity and achieve their full potential in a supportive community. We’re proud to support Sitar, a community anchor for DC youth within Adams Morgan and throughout the city.”

Our students create their own pathways to success. With principal support from the A. James & Alice B. Clark Foundation, we’re able to ensure they can access the resources needed to achieve their full potential right here where they live.
