ArtsAdvance: Career Studios

While construction at 1724 Kalorama Rd NW is underway, we are building the programming that will soon bring Sitar Next Door to life. This month's “construction” update explores the pilot phase of ArtsAdvance: Career Studios, Sitar's brand-new workforce development program

On September 5, Sitar launched the pilot year of ArtsAdvance with 16 apprentices and 6 new faculty members. The apprentices will train at Sitar through May in our inaugural career studios: graphic design, web design, and user-experience design. Additionally, the apprentices will take classes in professional skills, professional communication, and financial literacy with the support of curriculum developed with our partners Life Pieces to Masterpieces, The Opportunity Network, and Arizona State University’s Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts. The apprentices will also benefit from additional programming provided by the DC chapter of American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA), including an "AI in Design" workshop this month.

Funding for the pilot year is made possible through Sitar's Building the Next Stage Campaign. When Sitar Next Door opens, its advanced facility and equipment will support many more apprentices and enable new career studios in video production, recording engineering, and more. Until then, ArtsAdvance operates in our current facility during the school day hours, while the afterschool hours are bustling with Sitar's flagship programming for elementary, middle, and high school students.
