Ribbon Cutting Ceremony Celebrates Sitar Next Door!

Sitar Arts Center marked a major milestone for Sitar Next Door with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Saturday, September 6, 2025. The event marked the culmination of a multi-year effort — from a November 2022 groundbreaking through construction — and the realization of expanded opportunities in arts education for DC youth, celebrated as part of Sitar's 25th anniversary.

The ribbon cutting ceremony featured remarks from:

  • Dr. Unique Morris-Hughes, Director of the DC Department of Employment Services

  • Mario Garcia Durham, President, Sitar Arts Center Board of Directors

  • Aaron Myers, Executive Director, DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities

  • Jade Floyd, Incoming President, Sitar Arts Center Board of Directors

  • Jennifer Manning, Communications Manager, Jubilee Housing on behalf of Jim Knight, President and CEO

  • Maureen L. Dwyer, Executive Director, Sitar Arts Center

Following the ceremony, the community came together for a block party filled with music, art activities, and student performances, capping off a day dedicated to celebrating Sitar's past 25 years and unveiling the promise of the space's future.

These moments remind us why Sitar exists: to connect, create, and celebrate through the arts. Here’s to the next 25 years of building a creative community of learning and belonging!
