Outlining the Visual Art Studio and Ensemble Rehearsal Room

Construction on 1724 Kalorama Road NW

With the deep foundation work nearly complete, the construction team is starting to build the walls that will eventually create the new Visual Art Studio and Ensemble Rehearsal Room in Sitar Next Door! These two spaces will become a  learning studio for drawing, painting, 3D art, and mixed media, and a band and ensemble room for music instruction and rehearsals. We can't wait to see the masterpieces that will be created in both of these spaces, as well as in the Flexible Theater and Community Space, S.T.E.A.M. Lab, Recording Studio, and Film Studio to come!

These walls are actually the new elevator shaft and stairwell for residents of the three floors of affordable housing, owned and operated by our project partner, Jubilee Housing. On the ground floor, the stairwell's north wall will become the back wall of our new visual art studio and ensemble rehearsal room.

The final steps of the foundation work include excavating all excess dirt, laying the plumbing, and then laying slab to cover the ground. Very soon, windows will be installed, as well as a concrete perimeter beam on the third floor to support the future top level (fourth floor) at 1724 Kalorama Rd NW.
